MDL + Flickr 2009

Update: 2 February 2010. It appears that Flickr is still overwhelmed with applications to join the Commons. They recently announced that they have closed “registrations” for 2010. I have no idea whether the JHSUM application for inclusion is being considered or not. No responses from anyone at Flickr in many months. Cris Stoddart seems to be trying to hold it together now. No idea what became of Omar.

Overview

The Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) would like to work with at least one participant institution (likely the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest, JHSUM) to explore their readiness for The Commons on Flickr. We will facilitate communication between Flickr and our MDL participant. If The Commons turns out to be unacceptable to them, but participation in Flickr remains attractive, we will help develop a “regular Flickr” alternative. We will also develop a workflow for moving 400-500 pilot items from Reflections to Flickr, with an eye toward informing an ongoing workflow that MDL might develop for further Flickr deposits. Finally, we will assist with any administration and statistics gathering from Flickr.
