This page describes how to play with the MDL+Flickr process for migrating images from MDL Reflections to Flickr. Our goal is to use a process like this to move MDL participant images to the Flickr Commons.
Prepare your browser
Most modern web browsers have a "bookmarks bar" or "favorites bar" available near the top of each browser window. In order to use this workflow you will need to put a new item on this bookmarks bar. Usually this can be done by dragging the new item up there.
Just drag this link up onto your bookmarks bar and leave it there:
The item you just dragged is a small bit of javascript that serves as the glue between your browser and the script that does the work of retrieving a record from Reflections and sending it to Flickr.
Go get a record
Now that you have the bookmark, you need a record. Go to MDL Reflections and look one up. Navigate all the way to the "item record' on Reflections. In other words, keep clicking till you get to the page that includes a single image and the full description of that image.
Once you are looking at your record in Reflections, click on the "MDL+Flickr" link now in your bookmarks bar.
Push over to Flickr
The script at MDL will now retrieve metadata and the image itself from Reflections. This can take a while, so be patient. Once it has the data it will show it to you in a separate window along with button to "Send to Flickr". If it all looks OK, then go ahead and click the "Send to Flickr" button. If it does not look right, you could click the "Edit" button instead, but really I'd rather you just send me a note instead.
Finding the images on Flickr
For now, these images are being saved to the account "mdltests" on Flickr. You can find them at the address http://www.flickr.com/mdltests. They are not being made public, though, so if you are not a "contact" of the mdltests user you won't see much. In that case just send me a note with your Flickr account username and I"ll add you to the contact list.
